When would I use Java?

When NASA needed a customized audio recording application to make their ELV (Expendable Launch Vehicle) testing more efficient, they contacted 360Works. They needed cross-platform compatibility, custom audio handling and compression, and precise time stamping.

After discussing several possible technology options with them, we decided that the best approach would be to create a custom Java application. We used QuickTime for Java to handle much of the low-level sound handling, which freed us to concentrate on the unique features that they needed for their testing purposes. The project finished on-time at the quoted price, and has been used for several successful launches.

Java is a core piece of many of our projects. It is the programming language that is used with WebObjects, and it can also be used to build standalone desktop applications, such as the NASA sound recording application.
