ScriptMaster 4 Released!

We have released the latest version of our plugin, ScriptMaster 4!

We have been working extremely hard to incorporate all of the suggestions, ideas, and feedback from the thousands of people using ScriptMaster 3, and we think that you will be happy with the result.

Improvements to the new ScriptMaster 4:

Version 4 delivers major speed and stability improvements: Some ScriptMaster modules, like the choose file dialog and the color picker, display a visible GUI to the user. For other, non-GUI functions (which is the majority of them), we have optimized the threading model to run much faster. For example, the UUID module now generates about 3,300 UUIDs per second in version 4, where version 3 topped out at about 300 UUIDs per second. Compiling and registering modules should also be faster now.
Version 4 includes the latest Groovy version, 1.7.1. For those of you writing your own ScriptMaster modules in Groovy, this will let you use the latest and greatest third party libraries.

New modules in ScriptMaster 4:

iPhone push notifications (thanks Todd Geist)
Path parsing, for easily grabbing sections of an XML document
Move / rename files (thanks Jack James)
Recursively get the size of a folder
Find all image URLs in HTML for screen scraping

Version 4 is much more stable in our testing. Some people reported problems with hanging and freezing in version 3. As far as we can tell, these issues have been resolved.

There are also numerous minor issues which have been addressed, please see the release notes in the download for more details.

Get more power and generate plugins with ScriptMaster 4 Advanced

ScriptMaster 4 is a free product, and we foresee all future releases continuing to be freely distributable. Another option, starting with Version 4, is ScriptMaster Advanced. Handles Japanese characters better in uploaded filenames
Fixed bug where the 'checkForFile' flag in the SCDownload function was being ignored. This works correctly now, and will prompt the user before overwriting an existing file on their local computer.

Vector PDFs can be zoomed to any size with any resolution and retain high quality.

At the 2009 FileMaker Developer Conference, I was surprised and honored to receive the FileMaker Excellence Award for Outstanding Contribution to the FileMaker Community.

360Works SafetyNet Released - Automatic FileMaker Server Offsite Backups

360Works SafetyNet has been released!

SafetyNet makes it easy to set up remote backup routines for FileMaker Server administrators. Files are stored on Amazon’s “cloud-based” online file storage service, which runs on the same reliable and fast infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.

Once installed as a plugin on a FileMaker Server, SafetyNet watches for changes to the scheduled backup sets. When new files are detected, SafetyNet automatically compresses and transfers the latest backups to Amazon’s secure off-site digital storage facilities using SSL encryption. As with any effective, reliable backup solutions, SafetyNet requires no user intervention after the initial setup. It works automatically to guarantee that the latest versions of users’ files are safely stored on a remote server, and will e-mail the administrator in the event of a backup failure (and optionally, on backup success).

DevCon 2009 early registration

DevCon reminder - we're hoping to see you at DevCon 2009 in San Francisco. There's still one more week to get the early registration pricing (discount ends June 26th). If you've been before, you know how much fun and information gets packed into 3 and a half days. If you haven't then this is pretty much the one must-attend event of the year for any professional FileMaker developer.

I'll be doing two official sessions: "Backup strategies for FileMaker Server" on Friday at 1:30 and "XML Web Services with FileMaker Pro" on Saturday at 9 am.

I'll also be doing participating in two discussion panels: "Using FileMaker in the Enterprise", and "Doing Business in the FileMaker Market." The second one is going to be a discussion panel with Kirk Bowman, Molly Connolly, Matt Navarre, and Jonathan Stark.

Last but not least, just to ensure that we'll get no sleep for those 3 days, we'll be exhibiting our 360Works products in the exhibitor showcase area - so this is definitely going to be a busy DevCon for us.

What's new in ScriptMaster 3?

ScriptMaster 3 no longer requires you to manually install a plugin! Using 360Works' Auto Update server, the plugin will be automatically installed upon launch, making it even easier to integrate ScriptMaster and its modules into your own solution.

Version 3 includes the following new modules:

QuickTime Frame Capture - Capture a snapshot from an iSight camera or any other QuickTime-compatible video input
Create AES Secret Key - Generates a secure key that can be used with the next 2 functions
EncryptAES / DecryptAES - Uses the Rijndael AES encryption algorithm to encrypt data adhering to US Government standards to protect classified information
Crop Image - Crops an image to specified coordinates
Popup Menu - Takes a return-separated list of menu choices; returns the user's choice as the function result
Zip File - Creates a .zip archive of a file or directory
URLDecode - Compliments FileMaker's built-in GetAsURLEncoded function

SuperContainer 2.27 Thumbnail generation fix, less clutter

We’ve changed the default behavior a bit, and now hide the "delete" button by default - use the style=showdelete if you want the old behavior back. If you don’t specify a showdelete or nodelete style, the default behavior is to hide the Delete button, but still allow deletion using the right-click contextual menu in the applet. This is more like the default behavior of containers in FileMaker, and looks a lot cleaner.

This version also adds a fix for Tomcat not being able to generate thumbnails on some machines. This only affected tomcat deployments, not standalone versions.

Regex Plugin supports multiline operators

The 360Works Patterns plugin has been updated to version 1.6, this release includes multiline regular expression support, which means you can use the ^ and $ operators in your regular expression patterns.

So for example, to filter a return-separated list to only contain values containing numeric data, use the following:
