iOS uploads, foreign character support, and more in SuperContainer 2.87!

SuperContainer (http://360works.com/supercontainer) has been updated to version 2.87. SuperContainer makes file storage faster, more efficient, and more flexible than standard container fields, and it keeps getting better. With this new version, users with iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices running iOS 6 or later can now upload files directly to SuperContainer. Utilizing Safari uploads in iOS 6, you can directly upload files from within a web viewer in a FileMaker solution or even straight from a web browser (requires Enterprise license). Collect images and files straight from the field on an iPad and store them where needed on the server, or upload images from an iPhone's photo library.

SuperContainer 2.87 also adds better foreign character support by making file names and URL character handling more robust. Uploads, URLs, and upload directories work much better with non US-ASCII character sets. We've corrected some problems with SuperContainer server and IIS 7, and fixed the applet to correctly work with spaces in file names and upload directories. We've also fixed some file name encoding issues in the HTML UI.

In addition, you can now generate thumbnails for more types of TIFF files when SuperContainer is deployed with Tomcat. Thumbnails should now generate correctly when deploying with FileMaker Server.

Users who upgrade will experience much faster speeds when using SCSetBaseURL. Also, a memory leak has been found and fixed in the SuperContainer companion plug-in.

Due to recent security warnings for Java, Oracle recommends downloading the latest update from java.com, which fixes these problems. Some experts have recommended disabling the Java browser plug-in. Disabling the browser plug-in (instructions here) will not interfere with FileMaker plug-ins from 360Works, although completely uninstalling Java will prevent 360Works plug-ins from loading. If you are using SuperContainer, consult the SuperContainer documentation before disabling the Java browser plug-in.

More reliable sync with very large datasets, especially with iOS sync.
Better error reporting if the server where MirrorSync is running is not accessible on the network.
Improved sync pre-flight validation to catch more configuration errors. Also now allows any validation failures to be ignored.
Fixed a problem that occurred when syncing with remote container fields in FileMaker 12 (note - be sure to use the FileMaker Server Admin, not MirrorSync admin, to download an offline copy of files that use remote container fields)

SuperContainer 2.831 has been released. Due to problems with Java Update 6 for Snow Leopard and Java Update 1 for Lion (1.6.0.29), Java applets may crash in FileMaker. This crash occurs once a layout that contains an applet is opened. The latest version of SuperContainer works around these issues by switching to an HTML-only mode when running on Mac OS X, without a Java applet. This disables some functionality, including drag and drop. Bug reports have been filed with Apple, listed below:

All 360Works plug-ins have been updated today to resolve an auto-update issue.

This issue affects all Windows user who are using an auto-update script to install the most recent version of 360Works plug-ins. If you are not using auto-update, or if all of your users are on Mac OS X, you do not need to install this release. If you are using auto-update on Windows, there is a bug with the previous 360Works version that prevents auto-update from closing down the plug-in, which is needed in order to download the most recent version from the server.

First, if you are running auto-update from your own server, install the most recent version of the plug-ins on your server as you normally would for any update. You can download the latest auto-update packages from fmp7://autoupdate.360works.com/AutoUpdate360Works

The next step is to have your Windows users run the uninstaller applet at http://360works.com/remove-plugins/ . This is a very simple process which will remove the old version of the plugin.

After that, your users should be able to auto-update normally without having to uninstall for future updates. In addition, 'hot-swapping' should now work, so that the newest plugin update is immediately available without having to quit and restart FileMaker Pro.

We have released the latest version of our plugin, ScriptMaster 4!

We have been working extremely hard to incorporate all of the suggestions, ideas, and feedback from the thousands of people using ScriptMaster 3, and we think that you will be happy with the result.

Improvements to the new ScriptMaster 4:

Version 4 delivers major speed and stability improvements: Some ScriptMaster modules, like the choose file dialog and the color picker, display a visible GUI to the user. For other, non-GUI functions (which is the majority of them), we have optimized the threading model to run much faster. For example, the UUID module now generates about 3,300 UUIDs per second in version 4, where version 3 topped out at about 300 UUIDs per second. Compiling and registering modules should also be faster now.
Version 4 includes the latest Groovy version, 1.7.1. For those of you writing your own ScriptMaster modules in Groovy, this will let you use the latest and greatest third party libraries.

New modules in ScriptMaster 4:

iPhone push notifications (thanks Todd Geist)
Path parsing, for easily grabbing sections of an XML document
Move / rename files (thanks Jack James)
Recursively get the size of a folder
Find all image URLs in HTML for screen scraping

Version 4 is much more stable in our testing. Some people reported problems with hanging and freezing in version 3. As far as we can tell, these issues have been resolved.

SafetyNet makes it easy to set up remote backup routines for FileMaker Server administrators. Files are stored on Amazon’s “cloud-based” online file storage service, which runs on the same reliable and fast infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.

Once installed as a plugin on a FileMaker Server, SafetyNet watches for changes to the scheduled backup sets. SuperContainer 2.27 Thumbnail generation fix, less clutter

We’ve changed the default behavior a bit, and now hide the "delete" button by default - use the style=showdelete if you want the old behavior back. If you don’t specify a showdelete or nodelete style, the default behavior is to hide the Delete button, but still allow deletion using the right-click contextual menu in the applet. This is more like the default behavior of containers in FileMaker, and looks a lot cleaner.

This version also adds a fix for Tomcat not being able to generate thumbnails on some machines. This only affected tomcat deployments, not standalone versions.

Regex Plugin supports multiline operators

SuperContainer 2.25 performance boost, improved save dialog

ScriptMaster 2.07 adds getAsContainer() function

Version 2.07 of ScriptMaster adds a new function, getAsContainer, which allows you to return any InputStream from Groovy/Java as container data to FileMaker.

The example that comes with the development file shows how you could concatenate multiple files into a single container field result, using a SequenceInputStream.

You could also use this, for example, to have more control over URL connections - for example, setting custom authentication settings or cookies, and then returning the InputStream from the URLConnection.

360Works SuperContainer 1.854 update with MD5 Hash support

New in this version of SuperContainer, the SCGetInfo plugin function accepts an optional second parameter which allows you to specify additional metadata about a file stored in SuperContainer.

Specify “MD5” as the second parameter, and the SCGetInfo function will return the MD5 hash of the file on the server. This serves as a unique signature of the file, and can be used to track duplicate file uploads, or verify the integrity of files. Read all about MD5 on Wikipedia.

Server: Better cross-platform support for displaying correctly sized images when SuperContainer cannot create a thumbnail.

Plugin: Downloading PDF files from a server which is using OS X Core Imaging displays an image if max width or height is specified (this means you can now view PDF thumbnails in portals).

Now embeds a max-width css attribute into the img tag, even if it cannot resize the image. This means that it will display correctly in your browser / web viewer, although you are downloading the full size image and then it is being shrunk down in the browser.
Fixed a problem where SCGetContainer plugin function could return this error: "Can't start the AWT because Java was started on the first thread"
Fixed some memory leaks in the companion plugin; could cause excessive memory useage when used thousands of times.
